Ronnie's Foster Update

We feel Ronnie has turned a corner this week in more ways than one.

Firstly, the dermatitis which had been bothering him lately now seems to have completely cleared up. We are still phasing out his course of steroids and they will be finished by Tuesday.

He is anxious to please us and, as a consequence, his training is coming along well: he can now sit and give a paw, stay sitting while I walk away from him, then come for a treat when I call him over. We are still working on “lie down”.

Ronnie still tugs and strains when he is out on the lead and I think this problem will need lots of perseverance to sort out, but we have felt we could trust him enough these last few days to let him off his lead in the woods. Far from charging off as we suspected he might do, he has been the model of good behaviour and stayed obediently with us all the way. Apart from trying to chase birds and squirrels, off his lead he has been much more relaxed in his behaviour towards the other dogs/joggers/walkers we have met on the path. His habit of crouching down when he sees another dog approaching and then pouncing at it is something we have been trying to discourage as it makes some dogs nervous even though Ronnie is not intending to be aggressive!

We are also now confident that he is relaxed enough in the house to be left alone for short periods while we go shopping. When we returned from town last Friday he was dozing on the window seat and didn’t even wake up until we were half way down the garden path! Wonderful progress in one week – he is such a clever dog!

Bob's in Foster

We've had Bob for just over a day and he's doing really great. When he first came home he was so excited about having carpet and just wanted to roll all over it. He doesn't go upstairs (at his own choice) and is quite happy to sit on his blanket and have a nap or even play by himself. He loves to be around people and always wants to cuddle into you - he's very gentle and will put his paw on you when he wants you to stroke him. When he wants to play he drops his ball or toy right into your hands but is very careful and gentle. He's been great on walks, he's interested in other dogs and humans but very polite with any other dogs we've met. Bob's great in the car and seems fine when we've popped out and left him alone at home for a while. He's a really lovely dog and he deserves a great home!

Charlie & Charlotte

We'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Charlie and Charlotte who have been consistently raising money for the doggies at Moorview. They do chores around the house and even make Dad do the 'Swear Jar'! This is the third time they have donated their savings to Moorview and we cannot thank you enough! Well done Charlie and Charlotte, they raised £45.00!

Shona

UPDATE FROM SHONA'S FOSTER FAMILY

Shona is the perfect mix of fun and bouncy, and just plain chilled. She loves her walks, in particular squirrel chasing and running full pelt through long grass. She's great with other dogs, although her meet and greet style needs a little work, she's a bit too enthusiastic which some people misinterpret as aggression. It's just an eagerness to make friends and play but not everyone likes being charged at, so we're working on that and she's learning a calmer approach. I've taken her by lakes and ponds but she doesn't seem fussed for water, not scared of it but little interest in diving in. She doesn't see steaming horse droppings as a doggy buffet which every other dog I've had has.

She's really obedient and eager to please so comes when calls, well except if she's a squirrel in her sights, then you've no chance.

At home she is happy to chill and laze around. A bit of light ball chasing up and down stairs or fighting with her chew rope and that's enough for her. She's allowed on the sofa so there's usually a scrum for pole position in the corner, she wins. She's incredibly affectionate full of kisses and cuddles and will tap your leg with her paw if you're neglecting an ear rub. She's spent time with children of all ages, toddlers to teens and is just as great with them.

We've been on lots of drives and she's fine in the car, just curls up and has a snooze. Wasn't fazed at all by her visit to the vet and had her booster without even flinching. The vet said she's in great shape physically. We often get stopped when we're out by people saying how lovely she is. Kids always say she looks like a tiger and she could be doing ads for L'Oreal her coat is that shiny.

The only issue Shona has is her separation anxiety. This is getting better, as I build up the time she's left. She used to stress wee as soon as you left her but hasn't done that for over a week now. She still cries and is a bit of a sweaty mess when I return but I think with patience and a regular routine she will eventually overcome this. As her early years were spent with lots of other dogs she's never been left on her own and it scares her. I think if she had a mate that would help enormously.

Shona genuinely is an absolute star and I would keep her in a heartbeat if I could. If you have a dog who needs a new best mate please don't miss out on making it Shona as you'll be missing the chance to have a fabulous, funny, loving soul in your lives, she's fab.

We need YOU!

Would you like to help us raise money to be able to take doggies in? Do you fancy helping the Moorview Volunteer Team? We need you!

Between now and August we have 5 fundraisers in the bag and a May dog walk in the pipeline.

These fundraisers are what allow the rescue to operate, as they raise awareness as well as money. We get a lot of volunteer enquiries, and this is really the best way you could help us.Without the pennies required to cover vet bills and running costs there would be no rescue!

The events are as follows:
Easter Raffle
We are looking for people to sell tickets for us, or even just buy a few.

Easter Themed Bake Sale, Pets at Home 9th April
We will have one or two rescue dogs there and will have lots of yummy cakes on sale. We're looking for volunteers to bake cakes, buns, traybakes and Easter nests!

Abba Fundraiser
Abba Tribute Night Saturday 10th June at the Holiday Inn. We have three tables left (35 tickets in total) and if we sell all the tickets this event will raise a considerable amount of money for the rescue.

Moorview Charity Gala
Date and Location TBC. 3 course meal and silent auction. This is the 3rd year Katie has organised this for the rescue and each year has raised an amazing amount of money. We are looking for sponsors of the event, and attendees!

Birstwith Show
This year we will be hosting the dog show along with our vet Bishopton at Birstwith Show on July 29th. Perhaps you could print our posters off and post them at work or school?

If you can help in any way even by offering to help at events we would love to hear from you. Please message michelle@sparklingexperiences.co.uk for more information.

Elsie's Day out with volunteer Melissa

Elsie's Day out with volunteer Melissa

Initially lively she was a little stressed in the car, I don't think she has been anywhere other than in a car front seat, so that will need a bit of work to get her calmly into a safer place in a car boot to travel.

She has clearly been around children in the past and loves being fussed and greeted by other dogs, she just wants to please and is measured and passive with other dogs. A number of children made a bee line to her yesterday to stroke her (without my intervention) and she was fine, even being a little surrounded by attention at times, Elsie dealt with it well.

She was on an extension lead yesterday and responded to her name and came back every time without fail (she wasn't interested in the treat though!) She also started to respond to the click of the shorter bit of the extension lead as I reeled it in and walked closer to heel as the afternoon wore on. There is alot of potential here for Elsie's lead walking.

She sits for treats then gets excited and jumps up. I am sure that she will respond easily to a bit of training around this. She is still so young, there is plenty time for her to adapt to you. Elsie isn't a type of dog I would normally latch too but she stole my heart a bit yesterday... I lost my dog to ill health last year and will likely get a larger breed dog when ready again. In the meantime I would be hard pressed to not recommend Elsie to you all to consider giving a forever home to. Thanks to all who consider her and bigger thanks to those who step forward and give this lovely lady her forever home.

Tinker has a new home!

Tinker has a new home! And a new name - she is now called Layla!

Layla's new family sent us some messages and pictures of how she's settling in - you'll be glad to know it's working out very well for all parties!

Hi guys, just wanted to give you a little update on Tinker (now Layla). What a beautiful bundle of love, mischief and affection she is we are currently 'potty' training her and she is doing soooo well, only 1 accident in 2 days Layla went to Ogden Waters yesterday with another 4 legged friend and was so well behaved, she mixed with other dogs when out and even went to a dog friendly pub where she snored the whole time Layla loves to snuggle in bed and gives the best cuddles. She has been on lots of walks, is good in her lead and is very nosey....wants to know everything that is going on! I was in my office for a few hours last night and she slept in the chair next to me - very content. Today I left Layla for 3.5 hours....absolutely no problem at all..apart from her taking a liking to my blusher brush! Layla is the perfect fit for our family and she is adored by us all.

She's settled in all too well has the little beauty. She is definitely living the high life as she sleeps only in our beds (under the covers) and we're making progress on the toilet training front, making a big fuss of her when she goes outside and it seems to be getting less frequent. Layla has experienced Ogden, Shibden Park and our local park with me personally so far and is motivating my Mum to get up and has been on 90 minute morning walks since we got her. You can see her with her little jumper on as we discovered she hates rain so the jumper is 1 to keep her warm but also has a waterproof attachment so she has no excuses. Another picture you can see us treating her rash on her belly which seems to be clearing. Videos of her having her mad half hour, her encountering a swan and her being VIP in the front passenger seat on our way to Ogden! Hope this gives you a fraction of the joy she is bringing to us. By the way, the one picture she is sprawled out as if she's posing for a naked shoot...we didn't ask her to pose like that, she just knew the camera was out!
