Surrender Your Pet

We understand that the decision to surrender your animal is a difficult one, and you will have thought long and hard about it. We want to understand your animal, its likes and dislikes, so we can keep it safe and comfortable, and to give your animal the best possible chance moving forward in a new home. So please answer the following questions as openly and honestly as you can.

The Yorkshire Rescue aims to admit as many animals in need as we are able into our rescue, either via our Home from Home Scheme, Foster Scheme or into rented kennels/cattery. This will be limited by space available within our rescue, and may be influenced by a number of factors e.g. how urgently the animal is in need of re-homing, mix of animals currently in our care, funding available for behavioral rehabilitation etc.

We will try our very best to help you find a new home for your pet, although this cannot be guaranteed and will be dependent on our current funding.

PLEASE NOTE: We ask for a minimum donation of £50 to the rescue and may be more if the dog requires a vet (e.g. for vaccinations and neutering).

Has the dog ever bitten (another dog, a human, another pet). Please explain the circumstance.

Which Vet are you registered with?

Is your dog up to date on all vaccinations including Kennel Cough? Can you provide evidence of this? If not, why not?

Is your dog microchipped? Can you provide evidence of this? If not, why not?

Does your dog have any behavioural issues? No matter how small, please explain below.

Have you/your dog received behavioural training from a professional trainer since having the dog? If so, what was addressed?

Have you ever used a dog walker? Was the dog walked 1-2-1 or in groups?

How does your dog behave both on and off lead? How effective is their recall? How effective is their recall with distractions (another dog, deer, pheasants etc)?

How does your dog behave around other dogs?

Has your dog ever been reactive or shown aggressive toward another dog?

How does your dog behave around cats?

How does your dog behave around children?

Does your dog experience any separation anxiety? (crying or barking when you are out). Please explain.

Does your dog ever bark excessively? If so, why?

Is your dog possessive over anything (Eg. Food, bed, toys, owner etc.) Please explain.

Are you prepared to provide a donation of £50 to the rescue? Please note, this is a minimum donation and more may be required if the dog requires a vet (e.g. for vaccinations and neutering).

Is there any more information you can provide about your dog? For example, their personality traits and little quirks that may help us in rehoming them?
